This is a Team Lead role in Credit Risk Management (CRM) Department based in Hong Kong managing the Hedge Fund Credit Risk team. The team manages credit exposure to Hedge Fund (HF) and other fund counterparties located in Asia-pacific (APAC). Good knowledge of OTC derivative trades and experience in negotiating with stakeholders (including Sales) is required for this role. The role will have delegated credit approval authority.
Review the credit memos prepared by the analysts in the team, provide guidance on credit analysis, and approve the credit ratings and limits.
Work closely with Front Office Risk and Financing Risk functions on understanding stress loss scenarios, and recommend credit actions if it exceeds the credit risk appetite.
Conduct Due Diligence (DD) visits to, or calls with Hedge Fund clients, collect credit information necessary for undertaking credit analysis.
Analyze Hedge Funds’ trading strategies, risk management processes & practices, performance metrics, operations, controls etc. and write high quality credit memos.
Prescribe credit terms & covenants for legal documents such as ISDAs, CSAs, GMRAs, etc.
Present a summary of key risks in the APAC HF portfolio at the global HF risk review call and other regional and global risk committees.
Approve derivative trades on a daily basis for HF counterparties. Liaise with Financing Risk / Credit Quant team and obtain Independent Amount (IA) or Initial Margin numbers for derivative trades.
Review NAV and Performance data for all AeJ Hedge Funds on a monthly basis. Recommend credit actions for those Hedge Funds that exhibit deteriorating performance metrics.
Investigate credit limit breaches by speaking to Sales, Operations and Credit Risk Analytics team, determine the cause and escalate as per Credit Risk Policies.
Maintain close communication with HF team leads in other regions and stay aware of the global risk developments.
10+ years of work experience as a credit analyst analyzing Hedge Funds or Financial Institutions or as Credit Quant in an investment bank.
Prior experience of managing a team of analysts preferable.
Good inter-personal and strong verbal communication skills. Should be at ease in communicating with Sales and external clients.
Good understanding of risks in derivative trades (MtM, settlements) and how ‘Independent Amount’ (IA) is calculated for them.
Highly numerate and comfortable with interpreting various risk metrics (VaR, stressed exposure, expected exposures, etc.) to take credit decisions.
Thorough and have an eye for details.
